California Christmas

Here are a few pictures from Christmas morning (well, technically it was Christmas Eve, but it was Christmas morning for the Hurd family!):

Emily and Brynne showing us how many presents were under Grandma's tree

Tyler opening his pocket knife from Peter (a little scary I know - especially since later that day Tyler's cousin Garrett got 7 stitches in his had from a little mishap with his own new knife!)

Logan being cute as usual and SUPER happy and excited to celebrate his first Christmas!

Tyler and Drew bought presents for each other this year and BOTH got each other a Nerf gun!

Emily and Brynne with Brynne's new ponies from Emily

Emily pulled her pants up and said, "Look Mom! I'm Grandpa Ehat!" Lol! We love you Dad! And Emily was thinking about you while we were in California!

Here's Maddie with her new Jewelry making kit that she got from Grandma and Grandpa. She LOVES it!

Nathan opening his new basketball hoop from Grandpa and Grandma!

It took us almost 4 hours to open all of the presents. There were only 2 under the tree for each of the kids and only about 3 for the adults but my family likes to open them one at a time so everyone can see everyone's reactions so it took awhile! After we opened gifts we ate our traditional breakfast casseroles and some yummy cinnamon rolls then we got showered and ready for family pictures. I got my kids ready quick and then sneaked off to a quick lunch with some girlfriends from High School (so fun to see you all again and catch up a little we need to do it again soon!) and then we took Family Pictures (see previous post). After that we cleaned up a bit and Peter and I took the kids to the park and enjoyed the California weather! Maddie, Emily and Nathan made a huge pile of leaves and as they were jumping in it and having a ball Maddie stopped suddenly and said, "Wait! Mom! Why is it FALL in California at Christmastime? I thought Christmas was supposed to be in the WINTER?!" So funny! Tyler and Peter played football and we just had fun together.

My poor niece Britta was sick with the stomach flu while we were there and everyone else seemed to avoid it until that night when we went back to Tara and Jason's house and Logan threw up right before bed, and then around 2 am Maddie woke up throwing up. We were up all night with Maddie and Logan threw up once more that night but seemed to be fine after that. We woke up on the 25th and planned to get right in the car and start the drive home, but we got a late start because we were still cleaning up throw up and washing bedding and things. By that time Maddie's stomach was empty and she just felt weak so we figured she'd be fine in the car just sleeping. We brought several big ziplock bags and hoped for the best! We drove home all day on the 25th and got home around 1:30am. Peter and I were pretty exhausted from not sleeping the night before since we were up with sick kids but we managed to make it home without any problems, thank goodness! Luckily no one else in our family got sick although I heard that several of the cousins got sick after we left. It wouldn't be a road trip without someone throwing up at least once! Lol! Luckily it didn't get on anything in the car and Maddie managed to keep it all in the bag. Poor thing! Oh well, what can you do?
