My friend Lori posted this link on her Facebook profile and I watched the clip and felt like I HAD to share it with everyone possible. It is astonishing.

In this short clip it shows an interview with a couple (a "traditional" couple) who lives in Massachusetts (where same sex marriage is legal). Their Kindergartner brought home books and materials promoting same sex marriage. When they went to the school to ask for parental notification prior to discussing this topic in class so they could have their child "opt out", they were told that because same sex marriage is legal they could discuss it whenever they felt like without consenting the parents and that their child was not allowed to "opt out". When the parents said that this opposed their parental rights as well as their religious beliefs they were again told that it didn't matter and it didn't change things. The father said that he would be willing to stay there all night until he felt like he had his rights as a parent acknowledged. As a result they handcuffed him and put him in prison!
I understand that not everyone in the world has the same beliefs and that is fine with me. I understand that as families we each have our own standards and are often going to teach different things in our home than what the kids hear from friends, that is a part of raising kids. But what bothers me so much is that these parents had their parental rights taken away and had NO CONTROL over what their children were being taught and were not allowed to intervene at all! A parent was not allowed to have a say in what their 5 year old was being taught.
I think this video clip has really lit a fire in me and I felt that I needed to share it. Please take the time to watch this clip, to read reports and do your research. Before you pass this proposition off as "judgemental" and "hateful" please think about it from the other side. This effects more than just same sex couples. It effects us all. Vote YES on Proposition 8.

Wow, that does light a fire doesn't it?!
Janelle, thanks for posting this! You might also want to do a posting (per request of Elder Ballard and the first Presidency) of one of the videos off of: www.preservingmarriage.org. They talk about why we need to spread to word (people even outside of California) about Proposition 8. Also, there is a great site/resource on http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/commentary/the-divine-institution-of-marriage which has lots of sections about why it is necessary to pass this legislation, what the effects of having same-sex marriages could be on Californian's, and so on. It's grrreat. Thanks again for posting this! You're the best!
